Psychological impact on patients with the announcement of cardiovascular surgery

ABSTRACT

As time goes by, Health Psychology, with the result of various researches in non-transmissible chronic diseases, has been showing its pertinence. Psych Cardiology has emerged to specify the subjective, the cognitive and the emotional substratum in the environment of cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular surgery. The Objective is to assess the psychological impact in patients whose cardiovascular surgery has been announced. A study is carried out with 63 patients with cardiovascular surgery prescribed for March and June 2017 in the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. The following techniques are applied: Semi structured Interview and Socio Demographic Data Sheet. Negation characterizes the first patients´ response, and in some of them, it lasts in time. There is no meaningful correlation between the knowledge of the disease and the surgical process with the cultural level. Most patients experience physical, emotional changes and in their interpersonal relations. Therefore, it is essential to train health professionals to communicate with patients.
