ABSTRACT

Brain death is a known concept, but poorly understood. An inaccurate diagnosis of brain death provokes medical, social, juristic and personal consequences; therefore, it is suggested that a specialist physician should be on charge of the diagnosis. The objective of this review is to provide an adequate comprehension of the clinical diagnosis of brain death and make emphasis in the importance of clinical examination in these patients.
