ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the incidence of enteric pathogens detection with the use of the FilmArray GI panel, at the laboratory of Hospital Ángeles Pedregal, Mexico City.Materials and Methods: Retrospect, cross-sectional and descriptive study done from August 22nd, 2018 to July 9th, 2020 (98.1 weeks), with stool samples evaluated with the FilmArray GI panel.
Results: There were included 907 samples from two patient groups (outpatient and hospitalized). Of the total samples, 37.6% (341/907) were negative to the detection of pathogens. The age group in which the highest number of evidences was found was between 61 and 90 years, accounting for 35.7% (324/907) of the population studied; 62.4% (566/907) reported detection of one or more pathogens of the same sample; being identified: 79% bacteria, 13% viruses and 8% parasites.
Conclusions: After the population analysis, a high number of positive cases stand out for a microorganisms and the identification of multiple enteric pathogens. This type of tool has allowed timely and adequate treatment of the patients, the cost is similar to that of specific tests for each pathogen.
