ABSTRACT
Introduction: Arterial hypertension (AHT) is considered a serious public health problem. The rates of suffering continue to increase alarmingly, affecting almost all age groups. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of hypnosis as an antihypertensive treatment. Methods: A phase II clinical trial by controlled and randomized therapeutic exploration was carried out in individuals with a diagnosis of essential arterial hypertension in clinics 1 and 3 of the "César Fornet Fruto" Polyclinic in Banes during the period February - July 2020. The universe included the totality of individuals with essential arterial hypertension and by simple random sampling the sample of 53 cases and 106 controls that met the criteria determined for the research was constituted. The following variables were operationalized: sex, age, control criteria, medication consumption and satisfaction criteria. A structured hypnotherapeutic intervention was applied in three stages, which included 28 hypnosis sessions. Control of blood pressure before and after the sessions was carried out in the case group. The outcome and efficacy of the procedure were validated by McNemar's method. Results: The age groups 44-56 years and 57-69 years were the most representative (X2 = 1.041; p = 0.9036). The case group modified the arterial hypertension figures of the individuals (70 %) to the controlled stage four times more after the intervention (X2 = 22.11). Medication intake decreased for all medication groups (X = 9.73; p = 0.13). Controlled and poorly controlled individuals classified as satisfied (79.2 %; X2 = 24.56; p = 0.001). Conclusions: Hypnosis is effective in the treatment of arterial hypertension.REFERENCES
