ABSTRACT
The incidence of facial trauma and especially of fractures of the mandibular condyle is high. In the literature it ranks second with 18% after mandibular angle fractures with 31%. The Dr. Rubén Leñero General Hospital, in Mexico City, is a hospital health center open to the public, which treats an average of 962 polytraumatized patients per year. We realized a descriptive and retrospective study from January 2015 to January 2020, to determine if the epidemiology of mandibular condyle fractures corresponds to that reported worldwide. During this period there was a total of 49 patients between 18 and 78 years old, with a higher incidence in the males (85.7%), due to aggression in 57.7%, with subcondylar fractures in 62%, 44.9% handled surgically and 55.1% in a conservative way. The rate of complications related to surgical and conservative management was very low and the osteosynthesis materials used proved to be strong enough to achieve stable fixation.
