Obesity in Pediatrics Guidelines for First and Second Levels of Medical Care (Second part)

ABSTRACT

Childhood obesity is a public health problem worldwide, the advent of technology as a new way of life has led to the adoption of a new lifestyle, where fiscal activity is not a priority and eating habits include more and more processed food and high consumption of simple carbohydrates as the main source of nutrition in children. Obesity is related to dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and hypertension among other diseases. Cardiovascular risk is directly related to the Body Mass Index (BMI). Mexico ranks first in childhood obesity, so it is necessary to implement a strategy in the first and second level of medical care, to achieve prevention through education.
