ABSTRACT
Objective: To assess the behavior of contrast-induced nephropathy in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.Method: A longitudinal and descriptive study was carried out with 52 patients who presented contrast-induced nephropathy after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty in the cardiology service of Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical- Surgical Hospital, in the period from June 2016 to September 2017.
Results: The average age was 63.4 ± 9.6 years. Hypertensive and diabetic patients predominated. 36.5% of the sample had a history of renal damage. 93.3% were not hydrated before the procedure. 55.8% of the patients underwent urgent intervention and the same amount was treated a single coronary vessel. The risk of developing contrast-induced nephropathy, according to the Mehran risk score, was low (51.9%). The creatinine values obtained six months after the procedure were 92.5 ± 27.0 mmol/L.
Conclusions: In patients with contrast-induced nephropathy who underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus prevailed, together with the use of statin drugs and low adherence to the hydration protocol. There was little variation of creatinine between the diagnostic baseline and the values at six months after the interventional procedure.
