ABSTRACT
The body weight and the characterization of the hematological, hemochemical and histopathological parameters of the non-human primate Chlorocebus aethiops sabaeus (African green monkey) were characterized, together with its usefulness as animal model in biomedicine. The study was aimed for making available a NHP species on its Caribbean subspecies, easy to handle and of numerous Population which facilitates its use in biomedicine and for the biopharmaceutical industry. The physiologic range of body weight and the main hematological and hemochemical parameters were set for the different age groups and both sexes of healthy NHP C. aethiops subspecies kept under experimental conditions. Moreover, it was studied their capacity for the replication of Dengue virus serotype 2 and the performance of the analyzed parameters following the administration of three biotechnological products against cancer. The social and economic impact of this research are supported by the availability of the anthropometric characteristics for the species, as reference material for future research. This work received the Annual Award of the Cuban Academy of Sciences for the year 2018.
