ABSTRACT
Reconstruction of the nasal region is complex, as the nose is a key element for facial aesthetics. Likewise, the frequency with which cutaneous neoplasms occur in this topography, approximately 40%, makes it imperative to review the multiple reconstruction modalities available. The paramedial frontal, fronto-nasal or forehead flap is an axial myocutaneous flap based on the supratrochlear artery, which is used for large nasal defects. This flap is recommended for tumors greater than 1.5 cm2 in diameter in any anatomical subunit of the nose.
For the reconstruction of this region, the principles of reconstruction by cosmetic subunits must be taken into account, considering that if more than 50% of any subunit is missing, it must be completely reconstructed.
Prior to surgery, it is important to take into account some factors in the medical history such as smoking, use of glasses, previous radiation therapy at the donor or recipient site, and the patient’s inability to tolerate a multi-stage procedure.
The most frequently reported complications with this procedure are necrosis, infection, and unfavorable cosmetic results.
