Depressive Symptoms in Patients who Maintained Social Distancing During the COVID-19 Pandemic in a Clinic in Toluca, State of Mexico

ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the frequency of depressive symptoms in patients from an Outpatient Clinic in Toluca, State of
Mexico and those who maintained social distancing during the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic.
Methods: Cross-sectional study. The
Zung Test was applied to identify depressive symptoms. The test classified the patients as: normal, mildly depressed,
moderately depressed, and severely depressed. 110 users participated, descriptive statistics were performed for the analysis
of the results.
Results: 37% were male and 63% female; 7% had a primary education, 14% had completed secondary school,
23% high school, 18% a technical career, 33% had a bachelor's degree, while the remaining 3% had a master's degree. When
evaluating the presence of depressive symptoms, it was found that 71.8% of the interviewees had a normal result (79), 22.7
were slightly depressed (25), 4.5 were moderately depressed (5) and (1) 0.9% were severely depressed.
Conclusion: Most
respondents had a normal result. It is important to carry out more studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on
mental health so that there is solid evidence that it is a public health problem.
