ABSTRACT
This essay mentions the most outstanding contributions of the therapist Irvin David Yalom. This author is one of the main precursors of what today is known as existential therapy. The most relevant aspects of his biography and how to be the son of Russian emigrants and live in a poor neighborhood in the city of Washington D.C. After the end of World War I, he went on to work at John Hopkins Hospital and become Professor Emeritus at Stanford University. The concepts of what the author calls conflict forces in humans will be described, as well as the psychopathology of health, shock therapy, group therapy and the egalitarian therapeutic relationship. In this way the present essay tries to capture the perspective of the therapist Irvin David Yalom and to make known the development and importance of his legacy in existential therapies.REFERENCES
