ABSTRACT
Introduction: Although complications are not common, have accompanied the urological laparoscopic
surgery since the first nephrectomy via retroperitoneal approach.
Objective: To evaluate the complications of the lumboscopic nephrectomy.
Methods: A retrospective and longitudinal study was conducted in 166 nephrectomized patients through
lumboscopy at the National Center of Minimum Access Surgery between 2010 and 2018. A database was
created and it was used the SPSS software, version 21. Absolute and relative frequencies, and statistical
tests of comparison (p <0.05) were used. A univariate analysis was made to relate clinical and
perioperative variables with the complications having a significance level of p<0.05.
Results: Average age was of 50.4 years. There was a predominance of women and ASA I. The 31.5% had
previous renal surgery and 21.6% had urinary diversion. The most frequent cause of nephrectomy was
lithiasis (61.9%). Postoperative complications were observed in the 15.2%, most of them were infectious
and grade I. The average age of patients with complications was higher. The frequency of complications
was higher in those with a history of previous renal surgery. The history of more than one surgery and
urinary diversion was not associated with more frequency of complications. Patients with staghorn calculi
had significantly more complications (53.3%; p = 0.02).
Conclusions: Lumboscopic nephrectomy is a feasible, safe, and with a low rate of complications technique.
