ABSTRACT
The patent foramen ovale is a heart defect that can be found in young patients with cryptogenic stroke. It also represents one of the possible causes of right-left shunts in the paradox embolism, on the basis of a peripheral venous thrombosis and an effective hemodynamic condition for embolism. Here we present a 41-year old patient who develops multiple strokes and a locked in syndrome in the context of a patent foramen ovale and a deep venous thrombosis.
