Prevalence of asthma, rhinitis and atopic dermatitis in school children from the central area of the state of San Luis Potosí

ABSTRACT
Introduction: First study of the prevalence of allergic diseases in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Material and methods: Cross-sectional study that included a total of 2,104 children aged six to seven years and 2,572 adolescents aged 13 a 14 in the central area of the official methodology of the global asthma network was followed.
Results: The prevalence of asthma in the six to seven year-old group was 8.46%. In the 13 to 14 age group, 11.45% were reported. The prevalence of rhinitis is high in both age groups. Atopic dermatitis is in the average reported at the world and in Mexico.
Conclusions: Both the prevalence of asthma and atopic dermatitis are in the average of that reported in several states of Mexico, but not the allergic rhinitis, which has a higher prevalence in our state.
