ABSTRACT
On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization decreed a pandemic status due to SARSCoV-
2, from there scientific publications have pointed to the elderly population as one of the
most vulnerable populations and with the highest mortality rate. Some risk factors have been identified, such as the physiological changes of aging, decreased immune function and, especially, comorbidity, mainly hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. This is related to the
use of drugs such as angiotensin II converting enzyme inhibitors, which regulate the ACE-2
receptor, the same receptor that the SARS-CoV-2 virus uses to enter host cells. Therapeutic
decisions in older people can be difficult in certain circumstances; it is there that geriatricians
must act for decision-making based on clinical and functional conditions and not only based on age
