ABSTRACT
Preliminary data shows that severe pediatric COVID-19 is less common in young children, however, serious illness can be present among the group younger than 1 year of age and in those with underlying conditions. Reported data suggest that pediatric disease cases might be less severe than adult cases and that children might experience different signs and symptoms. Fever and cough should not be considered as classic symptoms. Many children are asymptomatic and others could have no respiratory symptoms but diarrhea, vomiting, nausea or headache. This review aims to summarize reported data in the pediatric group and to analyze current international and local institutional recommendations. Conclusion: The majority of children with COVID-19 have good outcomes and the clinical manifestations differ from adults. Children have a key rol in the viral transmission. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion, given that most kids are asymptomatic or may have mild symptoms. Also, be alert of the coinfection possibility with other viral agents during respiratory season in our country.
