ABSTRACT
The infection by the new coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome
(SARS-CoV-2) made the World Health Organization (WHO) declare this infectious
disease on January 30, 2020, as the sixth public health emergency at the international
level. The clinical presentation of this disease can vary according to various factors of
the infected patients, it can be divided into mild, moderate, severe and critical presentation.
Sepsis is defined as an infection capable of generating a dysregulated response that
causes organ failure. The SARS-CoV-2 infection generates an inflammatory syndrome
similar to sepsis, therefore, we review the concept to answer if we are facing a septic
process of viral origin.
