ABSTRACT
Guillain-Barré syndrome belongs to a group of demyelinating diseases that affect the peripheral
nerves. Its pathogenesis has been associated with an aberrant immune response
on infectious agents. Although there is a similarity in the incidence of Guillain-Barré
syndrome between pregnant and non-pregnant women, the national and international
existing information is scarce. The presentation of Guillain-Barré syndrome during
pregnancy can be in any trimester, including the puerperium, and its usual presentation
is an ascending paralysis involving cranial nerves and dysautonomies that, fortunately,
does not directly alter the product. The specific treatment (immunoglobulin, plasmapheresis)
and supportive treatment require a fast acting procuring the best outcome for
both the mother and the child.
