ABSTRACT

An odontoma is a tumor of odontogenic, benign and mixed origin. They are classified into complexes and compounds. Its etiology is unknown but has been associated with hereditary diseases, trauma or infectious processes. It is the most common cystic lesion and accounts for 70% of all odontogenic tumors, with composite odontoma being the most common, these contain all dental tissues in an organized manner and in the form of denticles. We present a clinical case of a composite odontoma with a right lower canine retained which is removed together with the canine and as a preventive measure the lower Erich arch is placed because of the possibility of pathological fracture. Objective: to present a clinical case and review of the literature. Conclusion: odontoma is a pathology that rarely requires extensive treatment, and each case should be analyzed individually, in this case under general anesthesia, prior to placement of Erich arches.
