ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of ossification of the middle palatal suture according to its morphology, for diagnostic purposes that allow establishing the most appropriate treatment plan for patients with problems of transverse deficiency.
Materials and methods: The sample size was 30 patients, 23 Women 7 Men, in an age range of 17 to 35 years, from the Orthodontic clinic of the UMSNH postgraduate studies division. They were asked for a Cone Beam. The 5 stages of maturation (A, B, C, D, E) proposed by Angelieri were established in 2013 according to the morphological characteristics of each patient, the images were exported in the software 3D imaging dental 6.14.0 (Atlanta, GA).
Results: The stages of maturation with greater prevalence in this study were stages D and E, it is verified that in 70% of the sample the treatment of choice was the rapid palatal expansion surgically assisted and 30% is candidate for a rapid palatal expansion.
