ABSTRACT
Atopias are a group of diseases that is gaining day-to-day research, with technological improvements that have allowed us to expand molecular studies of the environmental causes that can develop an allergic syndrome in a child. This study seeks to determine the socio-environmental risk factors associated with the presence of atopic symptoms in children under three years of age born in the General Hospital "San Francisco".
Material and methods: This is an observational, retrospective, longitudinal and inferential study. clinical histories of the year 2017 of the Neonatology service of the General Hospital "San Francisco", an adapted questionnaire of ISAAC-III was carried out, focusing on perinatal, family, social and environmental factors.
Results: The frequency of presentation was allergic rhinitis 27.1%, atopic dermatitis 24%, food allergy 10.5%, asthma 9%. A risk association was made with the allergic family member obtaining OR: 2.15 (1.06-4.35) p = 0.03. The use of antibiotics before the first year had an OR 2.47 (1.21-5.05) p = 0.01. Regarding temporality, the rainy season was associated with a higher intensity of atopic symptoms, with OR: 5.6 (95% 1.95-16.03) p = 0.01, obtaining the same association for asthma, atopic dermatitis, and in the dry season for allergic rhinitis.
Conclusions: The socioenvironmental factors associated with the risk of development of atopias were allergic family, antibiotic therapy in the first year of life, and rainy season in Quito and dry season for atopic dermatitis.
