INTRODUCCIÓN

En el pasado la guía para el anestesiólogo era la coloración de la piel, el color de la sangre del campo quirúrgico y el anestesiólogo se percataba de un episodio de hipoxemia cuando el paciente cambiaba al color cianótico o la sangre oscura del campo quirúrgico alertaba al cirujano, y si ninguno se percataba de estos datos, entonces el paciente sufría en la mayoría de los casos un paro cardíaco fatal.
