Función sexual femenina y anticoncepción hormonal

RESUMEN

La función sexual femenina siempre ha estado en la mitad de la polémica de la anticoncepción hormonal. Los efectos específicos de la píldora en la sexualidad femenina no son ni bien conocidos, ni bien entendidos. De hecho, de los miles de estudios científicos referentes a la anticoncepción hormonal pocos han evaluado su repercusión en la función sexual femenina. En este artículo se examinan los posibles efectos de los anticonceptivos hormonales orales combinados, hormonales no orales combinados (parche y anillo), y de los hormonales con solo progestinas (AHSP) (oral, implante, inyección, DIU).
Para ello hemos revisamos la literatura en Ingles por PubMed en los últimos 20 años. La mayor parte de los estudios revisados se centra, principalmente, en la determinación de hormonas y en el funcionamiento sexual y no en otros aspectos de la sexualidad.
Hasta la fecha hay pocos datos que justifiquen una indicación u otra. Por ello, la individualización, junto con los resultados clínicos, debe basar la creación de algoritmos que puedan satisfacer las preferencias sexuales y las relaciones individuales. La aceptabilidad sexual debería ser un punto imprescindible en la prescripción de anticonceptivos. Aún hacen falta más estudios que documenten la aceptación sexual de los métodos para las mujeres y sus parejas.
