Beneficios de los anticonceptivos orales combinados

RESUMEN
Después de 40 años, los anticonceptivos orales combinados han mostrado un perfil de
seguridad óptimo que permite indicarlos a distintos grupos etarios. En años recientes
se ha observado que, a la par del efecto anticonceptivo para el que fueron creados, los
hormonales orales combinados ofrecen diversos efectos benéficos, ginecológicos o no,
que se han estudiado con detenimiento. El propósito de este artículo es analizar, a la
luz de la evidencia, los efectos benéficos no anticonceptivos de los hormonales orales
combinados en mujeres no interesadas en planificar su familia. Los anticonceptivos
orales combinados repercuten positivamente en la vida de las mujeres en edad reproductiva,
no solo desde el punto de vista médico sino en el ámbito social, emocional,
antropológico, económico y de autoestima. El control de la fertilidad ha sido uno de
los avances más notorios en la lucha –que es de todos los ginecólogos– por lograr la
igualdad de género. Además de los efectos anticonceptivos de los hormonales orales
combinados, también son reconocidos los beneficios ginecológicos y no ginecológico
de estos fármacos.
