Relación entre la disfunción endotelial y el estrés mental

RESUMEN
Existe una relación estrecha entre el aumento del estrés mental y el incremento de
las enfermedades cardiovasculares. Estas enfermedades son la principal causa de
morbilidad y mortalidad en todo el mundo. Los padecimientos cardiovasculares tienen
una etiología compleja que involucra diferentes factores, entre ellos se encuentra la
genética, el estilo de vida, que incluye el consumo de una dieta alta en grasas y / o
carbohidratos, el alcohol y el tabaco, la inactividad física y el estrés. Por otro lado,
se ha reportado que en la relación entre el estrés mental y las enfermedades cardiovasculares
ocurren diferentes alteraciones de la función endotelial. Esto es de vital
importancia, ya que existe un consenso creciente de que la disfunción endotelial precede
y juega un papel importante en el desarrollo de enfermedades cardiovasculares,
tales como la hipertensión, la aterosclerosis y la isquemia cardiaca cuyo desenlace es
el infarto. El propósito de esta revisión es describir la función endotelial e integrar el
conocimiento actual acerca de los mecanismos subyacentes en la interacción entre
el estrés mental y la función endotelial.
