Trastornos temporomandibulares según el eje I de los Criterios Diagnósticos de Investigación (CDI/TTM) en una población geriátrica mexicana

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de los TTM en pacientes de diferentes centros geriátricos de Culiacán, Sinaloa (México) de acuerdo al eje I de los criterios diagnósticos para la investigación de los trastornos temporomandibulares (CDI/TTM) y analizar la influencia de otros parámetros como la edad, el género o el uso de prótesis dentales.
Materiales y métodos: 220 sujetos mayores de 50 años fueron evaluados según los criterios del eje I del cuestionario CDI/TTM. También se tomaron datos de la edad, el sexo y el tipo de prótesis dental removible.
Resultados: La mayoría de los pacientes con TTM tenían más de 70 años (p=0.006) y un mayor número de piezas dentarias perdidas (p=0.003), eran portadores de prótesis totales (p=0.002), dolor miofacial (p‹0.001), patrón de apertura diferente al patrón recto (p=0.002) y dolor en la apertura máxima (p‹0.001) junto con un menor número de milímetros de apertura máxima (p=0.006). Sin embargo, el sexo (p=1.000), la desviación de la línea media (p=0.812) o los milímetros de esta desviación (p=0.672) no influyeron significativamente sobre los TTM.
