Funciones no-canónicas de los canales de potasio activados por voltaje

RESUMEN
Los canales de potasio activados por voltaje (Kv) son proteínas que forman poros
selectivos a potasio (K+) en las membranas celulares. Los canales Kv abren o cierran
en respuesta a cambios en el potencial transmembranal y son esenciales en la
repolarización de los potenciales de acción y por lo tanto para el funcionamiento de
los tejidos excitables. Además de estas bien conocidas funciones, en años recientes
se ha propuesto que los canales Kv pueden influenciar eventos celulares de manera
independiente a su función como canales iónicos. Esta revisión presenta ejemplos
sobre las funciones que desarrollan los canales Kv a través de vías no-canónicas, es
decir independientes del flujo de iones K+.
