Infecciones urinarias recurrentes: Algunos factores de riesgo

RESUMEN
Objetivo. Identificar algunos factores de riesgo de infección urinaria recurrente.
Material y métodos. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de casos y controles, pareado 1:1, en 41 niños que padecieron infecciones urinarias recurrentes menores de 15 años, en el año 2001. Los datos obtenidos de la historia clínica fueron: tipo de recurrencia, edad, sexo, estado nutricio, formas clínicas, factores predisponentes, bacteria identificada, antimicrobiano usado en infecciones previas, vía por donde recibió el tratamiento, duración de éste, calidad del seguimiento.
Resultados. Hubo un predominio de las recaídas (63.4%). Los resultados que mostraron mayor fuerza de asociación con el suceso fueron: factores predisponentes (RM = 3.36), tratamiento con sulfaprin (RM = 3.34), edad menor a un año (RM = 3.08) y el sexo femenino (RM = 1.89).
Conclusiones. La edad menor de un año, el sexo femenino, la presencia de factores predisponentes y el tratamiento con sulfaprin se comportaron como factores de riesgo.
