El trauma sigue siendo la principal causa de muerte con hemorragia como la principal causa de mortalidad prevenible durante las primeras 24 horas después del trauma. La hipovolemia se define como el estado fisiológico de sangre reducida o, más específicamente, volumen plasmático reducido. El shock hipovolémico es la expresión clínica de insuficiencia circulatoria que resulta en una utilización inadecuada de oxígeno celular. Es importante el reconocimiento oportuno, para que la reanimación pueda comenzar lo antes posible y se disminuya el riesgo de posibles complicaciones asociadas al mismo.
