Virus de la Hepatitis C

RESUMEN
El cuadro clínico que ahora conocemos como
de hepatitis asociado a transmisión parenteral se
reconoció hace más de 100 años. Se estima que
esta infección por el virus de la hepatitis C (VHC)
afecta a cerca del 3% de la población mundial. En
México la prevalencia es de aproximadamente el 1%,
dando cuenta de 1 millón de individuos afectados.
La infección crónica por el VHC puede originar
cirrosis hepática y eventualmente carcinoma
hepatocelular. El tratamiento actual dista mucho de
ser perfecto, obteniéndose con éste un 40% a 60%
de eliminación del virus circulante, dependiendo del
genotipo.
