RESUMEN
La obstrucción de la vía aérea puede ser debida a diversas causas, tanto malignas como benignas. En los casos de malignidad puede ser causada por carcinoma bronquiogénico, tumores metastásicos del árbol traqueobronquial, la patología primaria de tráquea o de la laringe. La patología benigna puede deberse a obstrucción tardía postraqueostomía o bien a casos de granulomas de diversas etiologías, el más frecuente es el debido a Mycobacterium tuberculosis. El oportuno manejo de la obstrucción y la intervención de un grupo multidisciplinario, en el cual participan otorrinolaringólogos, broncoscopistas, cirujanos de cuello, cirujanos de tórax y radioterapeutas, mejoran la calidad de vida y pueden curar la obstrucción de la vía aérea.
