Trastorno de dolor dentoalveolar persistente: El paciente que nunca olvidará...

RESUMEN
El Trastorno de Dolor Dentoalveolar Persistente (PDAP), es un dolor neuropático de origen no
odontogénico, que puede resultar difícil de diagnosticar y generalmente se acompaña de una creciente
ansiedad tanto de parte del paciente como también del odontólogo, debido a los múltiples infructuosos
tratamientos en los que se suele incurrir para intentar solucionarlo. Una exhaustiva historia médica,
acompañada de un examen clínico y radiográfico completo, así como las demás pruebas diagnósticas
correspondientes según el caso, deben ayudar al odontólogo a obtener el diagnóstico lo más temprano
posible para iniciar el tratamiento indicado para cada caso. El manejo interdisciplinario es recomendado,
pues esta condición habitualmente abarca aspectos psicosociales del paciente, donde tiende a verse
afectada su calidad de vida. Antes de iniciar un tratamiento clínico invasivo, el odontólogo responsable
debe obtener un diagnóstico claro de la etiología del dolor y en caso de duda valorar la posibilidad de
estar ante un caso de dolor no odontogénico, como el PDAP.
