RESUMEN
La lesión renal aguda (LRA) se refiere a una rápida disminución de la función renal excretora con acumulación de metabolitos del nitrógeno. En los últimos años ha tomado importancia debido al incremento en morbilidad, mortalidad y a la progresión a cronicidad. El diagnóstico de esta entidad resulta complejo debido a la poca homogeneidad en los criterios diagnósticos y los factores que favorecen su desarrollo. La definición de LRA y clasificación de acuerdo con RIFLE y AKIN, basados en los cambios primarios y desenlaces terminales, han abierto el panorama para incorporar la LRA como un problema prevenible y tratable desde estadios tempranos por lo que es importante destacar fisiopatológicamente los factores predisponentes, así como los insultos que derivan en la
progresión a LRA. Actualmente es importante la estandarización y el uso de criterios unificados para el diagnóstico oportuno, prevención de cronicidad y generación de nueva información.
