Hormonas sexuales y sueño

RESUMEN
Hombres y mujeres presentan diferencias en los patrones de sueño atribuidas a la acción de las hormonas sexuales. En la mujer se presentan diferencias en las etapas
del sueño a lo largo del ciclo menstrual y durante la menopausia. Las hormonas sexuales tienen un papel muy importante en la etiología de algunos padecimientos que son
más frecuentes en mujeres que en hombres, incluyendo a las alteraciones del sueño. Este artículo revisa los efectos de las hormonas sexuales sobre el sueño, incluyendo
estudios en humanos y en animales.
