Entrevista motivacional. Enfoque personalizado al paciente periodontalmente comprometido

RESUMEN
La participación del paciente en la higiene oral eficaz durante y después de la terapia periodontal es esencial para el éxito a largo plazo. La entrevista motivacional (EM) es un enfoque de orientación conductual documentado para influir positivamente en el cambio de comportamiento relacionado con el cumplimiento o adherencia a una medicación o para el control de enfermedades crónicas, particularmente el control del
biofilm. Las nuevas evidencias sugieren que la EM tiene amplia utilidad para mejorar la salud oral y general del individuo. El objetivo de este trabajo es introducir al odontólogo y al especialista al uso de la entrevista motivacional para enfocar la atención personalizada y la motivación de cada sujeto para mejorar sus hábitos de higiene oral.
