RESUMEN
Las células NK constituyen parte del sistema inmune innato; morfológicamente son linfocitos grandes y presentan abundantes gránulos intracitoplásmicos.
Al activarse las células NK se diferencian en células efectoras de corta vida, cuya función es identificar y contener a las células que presentan patrones moleculares que indiquen daño, ya sea por estrés, transformación maligna y/o infección a ciertos virus y a otros patógenos intracelulares. Además, modulan el crecimiento de células hematopoyéticas al producir una gran variedad de citocinas y quimiocinas.
Investigaciones recientes permiten sugerir a las células NK como modelo bioenergético para el estudio de la diferenciación celular.
