Oxidantes y antioxidantes en la infertilidad masculina

RESUMEN
Los antioxidantes son sustancias indispensables en la protección de la célula contra el daño que pueden causarle las moléculas inestables, conocidas como radicales libres. Los antioxidantes pueden interactuar al estabilizar estas sustancias para disminuir o prevenir la oxidación. En los últimos años se incrementó el estudio acerca del daño oxidativo causado a la célula, con especial interés en los gametos. En lo que respecta al espermatozoide y a la infertilidad masculina, se postula como causa importante de ésta el incremento en la fragmentación del ADN y como principal causa de este daño se consigna el estrés oxidativo. El propósito de este trabajo es revisar cómo funciona el sistema oxidativo y antioxidante en relación con el factor masculino.
