RESUMEN

El labio es un órgano de complejas relaciones anatómicas, importantes funciones fisiológicas y grandes connotaciones sociales, cosméticas y sexuales. Esta subunidad cosmética es asiento de tumores malignos como carcinoma basocelular, carcinoma escamocelular y melanoma, los dos últimos con importante potencial metastásico.
El dermatólogo debe tener el compromiso de detectar oportunamente estas patologías para el abordaje oncológico, pero también para lograr una adecuada reconstrucción. Sin embargo, dada su complejidad, el labio es una zona de difícil reconstrucción que plantea grandes desafíos quirúrgicos. Por ello, el presente artículo repasa la anatomía de la subunidad labial, clasifica los defectos por extensión y profundidad, y propone estrategias de reconstrucción.
