RESUMEN
El eje intestino-hígado se ha relacionado con la progresión de diferentes
enfermedades, tanto hepáticas como del metabolismo general. El
intestino es una barrera biológica semipermeable, selectiva, constituida
de complejos de proteínas de unión intercelular y diferentes sistemas
de transporte con capacidad de regulación por factores internos y externos.
Las moléculas que ingresan a la circulación porta estimulan las
poblaciones celulares del hígado, que originan o amplifican respuestas
adaptativas de protección o daño. Esta comunicación está determinada
por procesos como inflamación subclínica, estrés oxidativo, señales de
proliferación, apoptosis o fibrogénesis. Intervenciones como el uso de
probióticos han mostrado beneficios clínicos; sin embargo, se requieren
más estudios traslacionales y ensayos clínicos para hacer recomendaciones
específicas para un mayor impacto terapéutico.
