Manifestaciones cutáneas del VIH

RESUMEN
El espectro clínico del VIH, un lentivirus miembro de la familia de los retrovirus, incluye la infección primaria, asintomática,
sintomática temprana e inmunodeficiencia avanzada con complicaciones secundarias a infecciones oportunistas,
malignidad y enfermedades neurológicas. Las manifestaciones cutáneas de esta enfermedad son extremadamente
frecuentes, e incluyen desde las ligadas a la infección inicial por VIH, así como otras etiologías infecciosas (bacterianas,
virales, fúngicas y parasitarias) y no infecciosas. Dichas manifestaciones pueden ser los primeros signos de inmunosupresión
y enfermedad relacionada al virus orientando a su diagnóstico. La mayor frecuencia de enfermedades cutáneas
se presenta cuando los linfocitos CD4 se encuentran en cifras inferiores a 250 cel/mm
3. El conocimiento de las entidades
cutáneas indicadoras de la enfermedad es indispensable para el diagnóstico oportuno de la infección por VIH y así
establecer el tratamiento antirretroviral temprano durante la enfermedad para mejorar el pronóstico de estos pacientes.
