Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico en la Edad Pediátrica

RESUMEN

El lupus eritematoso sistémico es una enfermedad autoinmune de carácter crónico que se presenta con mayor medida en mujeres, donde las primeras manifestaciones aparecen durante la etapa reproductiva, con una incidencia más alta en personas de origen africano y asiático. Dado que está enfermedad se caracteriza por la presencia de autoanticuerpos y por el depósito de complejos antígeno-anticuerpo en algunos órganos, la cuantificación de anticuerpos autorreactivos, incluyendo anticuerpos antinucleares es uno de los criterios para el diagnóstico.
En raras ocasiones, el lupus aparece en niños, convirtiéndolo en una presentación poco estudiada. En estos pacientes la enfermedad se presenta de una forma mucho más aguda y agresiva que en los adultos y con variaciones en la incidencia, manifestaciones clínicas y pronóstico. La baja frecuencia y el hecho de que sea una enfermedad típicamente asociada con pacientes adultos hacen que el manejo clínico de estos pacientes sea complicado y se requieren medidas especiales y específicas,diferentes a las de los adultos.
En este trabajo se abordan los aspectos clínicos principales del lupus pediátrico, como son el diagnóstico, pronóstico, tratamiento, manifestaciones clínicas, entre otros y al mismo tiempo se comparan con la contraparte adulta de esta enfermedad.
