Perspectiva clínica de los trastornos de la glucemia en pacientes hospitalizados

RESUMEN
La hiperglucemia asociada a la hospitalización es un fenómeno frecuente en la práctica clínica y ha cobrado una relevancia particular como biomarcador pronóstico de la evolución clínica de los sujetos ingresados por diferentes causas. Los pacientes con diabetes mellitus constituyen un grupo de riesgo particular que presentan frecuentemente situaciones agudas y requieren de servicios asistenciales en instituciones de salud. En esta revisión se actualizan los criterios de diagnóstico de los diferentes trastornos de la glucemia y se exponen los principales mecanismos patogénicos y fisiopatológicos que determinan su desencadenamiento, así como su probable asociación con complicaciones médicas. Se exponen metas de control de la glucemia para diferentes situaciones clínicas.
