Derrame paraneumónico y empiema. A propósito de una revisión integral

RESUMEN
En años recientes se ha incrementado el número de casos confirmados de derrame paraneumónico y/o empiema. El desenlace de la enfermedad tiene asociación con el tiempo que transcurre entre el comienzo de los síntomas y la evaluación médica inicial. Dicha transición epidemiológica ha incrementado el conocimiento general de la fisiopatología; del mismo modo, se han revolucionado las diferentes rutas del abordaje diagnóstico y tratamiento con enfoque sobre el uso adecuado de las estrategias terapéuticas disponibles. Esta revisión tiene como objetivo proporcionar un panorama global de la enfermedad con base en la mejor evidencia disponible para orientar sobre las decisiones de la práctica clínica cotidiana.
