Cáncer diferenciado de tiroides: una antigua enfermedad con nuevos conocimientos

RESUMEN
El cáncer diferenciado de tiroides es la neoplasia endocrina más común y su incidencia parece aumentar rápidamente,
aunque con un buen pronóstico; la participación de diversas especialidades médicas ha propiciado diferentes enfoques
en el tratamiento e incluso varias controversias. En ausencia de estudios controlados, las recomendaciones para el
tratamiento se fundamentan en conocer los factores pronósticos para la sobrevida y el control local, los efectos de los
tratamientos y la morbilidad asociada. Recientemente, se han presentado avances importantes en el área de la genética
y la biología molecular que tienen aplicaciones terapéuticas principalmente para la enfermedad refractaria al yodo;
también se han logrado avances en el tratamiento adyuvante utilizando radiofármacos y hormonas recombinantes. Con
toda esta nueva información, presentamos una revisión que pretende actualizar los conocimientos sobre una enfermedad
antigua.
