La sigmoidoscopia: una alternativa útil para la pesquisa del cáncer colorrectal

RESUMEN

El cáncer colorrectal es un problema de salud cuya incidencia y mortalidad se encuentran en ascenso, incluso en edades tempranas. Dentro de sus métodos de cribado se encuentra la sigmoidoscopia flexible, pero su uso es un tema controversial, pues es defendida por algunos como un método primario de pesquisa, mientras que otros no la aceptan por la imposibilidad de la exploración total del colon. Se revisó la literatura al respecto para conocer la utilidad de la sigmoidoscopia en la disminución de la incidencia y mortalidad por esta neoplasia.
