El virus HHV-6 y sus efectos en el neurodesarrollo: un estudio de caso

RESUMEN
Al menos desde 1993 diversos documentos se han publicado
sobre las infecciones virales relacionadas con
los trastornos en el neurodesarrollo, que incluyen las
convulsiones febriles, la epilepsia del lóbulo temporal
mesial, encefalitis, meningoencefalitis y meningitis. Todas
ellas producen secuelas neurocognitivas de consideración,
que recurrentemente son confundidas con
alguno de los trastornos del espectro autista. Debido
a ello, desde hace tiempo, alrededor del mundo se
han documentado casos donde el diagnóstico inicial
ha encubierto la presencia del virus. El presente
artículo presenta un estudio de caso, de una niña
mexicana que fue diagnosticada y tratada con trastorno
generalizado del desarrollo no especificado,
hasta que se llevó a cabo el protocolo para realizar
diagnóstico diferencial y se encontró que era portadora
del virus HHV-6, que provocaba irritabilidad crónica
en el lóbulo frontal y la llevó a un retroceso en el
desarrollo. El tratamiento médico incluyó apoyo
neuromodulador basado en la plasticidad cerebral y
dieta específica, que juntos han dado resultados lentos,
pero sostenidos.
