Función y mecanismo de la leptina en los rumiantes

RESUMEN
El objetivo de esta revisión es conocer los mecanismos de acción de la leptina en
los rumiantes, ya que es una hormona que permite determinar de manera adecuada el
estado nutricional del ganado. La leptina es una proteína plasmática formada por 167
aminoácidos y se sintetiza en el tejido adiposo; ésta proporciona información acerca
de las reservas de grasa del animal, actúa como un regulador eferente del apetito, de la
expedición de energía y de la función reproductiva. Además, la leptina se correlaciona
positivamente con el incremento de la masa corporal y afecta la función y la presencia
de otras hormonas como son la insulina y la hormona de crecimiento. Estos
compuestos, en conjunto, reflejan el suministro adecuado de nutrientes con relación al
empleo de los mismos; de tal manera que la determinación de la concentración de la
leptina, permitiría determinar el estado nutricional del ganado en forma precisa.
