Inflamación e infección: su relación con la enfermedad cerebrovascular isquémica

RESUMEN
Se ha valorado en las distintas fases del proceso de la ateroesclerosis, la importancia de la inflamación y se ha relacionado, asimismo, con las infecciones. La asociación de la ateroesclerosis con la enfermedad cerebrovascular isquémica no es discutida. Se revisa la literatura existente en el MEDLINE, con el fin de evaluar la utilidad del conocimiento de algunos elementos que intervienen en la inflamación y su importancia, como factores de riesgo y valor predictivo en esta afección. En este sentido las investigaciones realizadas no permiten asegurar, definitivamente, la asociación con la enfermedad cerebrovascular y su valor predictivo, por lo que es necesario continuar los estudios a fin de dar respuesta a estas interrogantes. En relación a las infecciones nos podemos expresar con igual criterio.
