Trastornos temporomandibulares y compromiso de actividad motora en los músculos masticatorios: revisión de la literatura

RESUMEN
Introducción: Los trastornos temporomandibulares son condiciones complejas que evocan compromisos en la actividad motora de los músculos masticatorios; entender los aspectos generales de esta patología y las alteraciones musculoesqueléticas consecuentes son herramientas para el actuar del rehabilitador físico, ya que permiten establecer estrategias de tratamiento apropiadas.
Objetivo: Entablar un análisis donde se relacionen los aspectos generales de los trastornos temporomandibulares y sus efectos sobre la actividad muscular masticatoria mediante una revisión bibliográfica.
Estrategia de búsqueda: Revisión de literatura metódica en bases de datos: PubMed, Scopus y Ovid. Sólo artículos científicos relevantes.
Síntesis de resultados: La patología en discusión posee etiología multiactorial y sintomatología variada. Las publicaciones empleadas sustentan las respuestas en la fisiología muscular con estudios electromiográficos.
Conclusiones: Los diferentes estudios reflejan en los músculos masticatorios hiperactividad en reposo y deficiencia para generar fuerza. Los trastornos temporomandibulares poseen menor cantidad de estudios que otros trastornos articulares.
