Artroplastía de hombro reversa: complicaciones y prevención

RESUMEN

La prótesis total de hombro reversa fue diseñada como un tratamiento para pacientes con artropatía por defi ciencia del manguito de los rotadores, ya que el tratamiento conservador había fallado. Las indicaciones para su uso han evolucionado, éstas incluyen artropatía por deficiencia del manguito de los rotadores, reconstrucción en fracturas de cabeza humeral, revisión de hemiartroplastías y reconstrucción después de resección tumoral. La colocación exitosa depende de que el paciente tenga una función deltoidea adecuada y buena calidad ósea en la cavidad glenoidea y en el húmero proximal. Hasta hace pocos años no se tenían datos claros del éxito de este procedimiento, actualmente se han reportado resultados alentadores; no obstante, éstos han tenido un costo alto debido al elevado índice de complicaciones, las cuales se dividen en específicas de la prótesis y comunes a cirugías de hombro. El objetivo primordial de esta revisión es evaluar las complicaciones más comunes de la prótesis reversa, cómo tratarlas y cómo podemos evitarlas.
